INSPIRATION 05 | D.C. Joseph The Japanse House, The coach's coach, and the feels.

I think of inspiration as something that causes one to take action and create focus. I think too often people rely on inspiration as a quick burst of momentary motivation. Sometimes that is useful and needed, but typically when seeking inspiration, I’m looking for something that is more lasting. Below is what has been inspiring me in both the short-term and long-term.

The Japanese House — Pools To Bathe In

Pools To Bathe In is my favorite album of the year. I put the album on repeat and listen to it for 2 to 3 cycles at a time. While listening, I get lost and put into a trance. It’s the perfect album to put on while writing, designing, or creating. I’m looking forward to hearing more from the 19-year-old artist.

John Wooden

John Wooden has had a significant impact on my life over the last six months. He is considered to be the coach’s coach. He is the only person to be in the basketball hall of fame as a player and a coach. He also has the winningest record in college basketball and won a total of 10 national championships.  I feel like I’ve been living under a rock because I just became aware of Coach Wooden this year. I discovered Coach Wooden through the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary Trojan War. In the documentary, Pete Carroll, the Seattle Seahawks head coach, attributed his coaching success to one book. Being a huge Pete Carrol fan, I had to read the book he referenced: Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court. I don’t want to spoil anything about the book because I believe anybody can read it and gain something from it, even if you know nothing about basketball.

You can purchase my favorite book of his here on Amazon.

Nike – Together | Lebron James

During the NBA finals I was reminded of my favorite Nike ad that was produced for last year’s finals. Lebron shared it on social media claiming that it’s his favorite Nike ad. I get the feels every time I watch it.

Cheers,

-D.C Joseph
